Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
