One two-month voyage around Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned several hours later after the personnel became aware the passenger was not present.

A major hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator said that guests and personnel on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" banning any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the voyage.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the expedition - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of walking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Statement

The offspring of the victim said that her family was "shocked and grieved that the liner left the location after an scheduled tour without my parent".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking club.

"Based on limited details we have been told, it appears that there was a lapse of attention and basic judgment," she stated.

She added that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the operator should have undertaken that might have saved Mother's life".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot period, and mum took sick on the uphill trek," she explained.

"They requested her to go back, unescorted. Then the boat sailed away, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or soon after, mum passed away, by herself."

Operator Reaction

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the company was "working closely with authorities to assist their investigation".

He stated that the company was "very regretful that this has happened" and had offered its complete assistance to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Standards

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six personnel, according to corporate details. It was specially constructed to access isolated areas of the nation's coast and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on land visits.

Incidents such as this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have systems to record which individuals are boarding or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard simply isn't an possibility," a specialist commented.

Vessel operators regard these processes with great importance and have "clever tech in place to avoid such events from occurring," the expert continued.

"This appears to be most likely a stunning - and sad - single occurrence."
