Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
