“That was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
